Big Write

Big Writing in Year 3 and 4

As you may know, each week the children carry out a big write which is related to the topic the children are learning about. This is something which has been put in place all around the school. The purpose of this scheme is to improve the children's writing and to give the children a chance to edit their work through valuable feedback.

Each child in year 3 and 4 has their own target card which supports them in all writing areas. Each child receives their own individual target related to each piece of writing which they carry out every friday. The children then get to colour in a globe if they meet their target once, twice and ongoing.

''I like big write because we get to write about interesting things in the topic'' - Morgan, Year 4

The teachers will then mark the children's work and give positive feedback on how well they have met their target as well as a next step which allows the children to improve their writing.

Feedback is given every monday and the children will carry out an activitity which will support them in meeting their target next time.

''Big write helps me with writing stories'' - Charlotte, Year 4

The big write has been successful in building the confidence of the children's writing and allowing each child to make progress and improve their writing.
