Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Spring Term 2012 Please remember: That from the start of the Spring Term, the children will be coming into school through the main playground and in through the library doors every morning. They need to be in the line and have said their goodbyes when the bell rings at 8.55. We have shown the children where they will line up, as there will be 2 lines, one for Our Lady's class and one for St Joseph's class. We will not be offering the stay and play in the mornings. Our topics this term are: Once Upon a Time - we will be learning about and listening to a variety of traditional tales. Maybe you could share your favourite story with your child? Space - we will be learning about the different planets in Space and reading a variety of Space stories. We might even have some visitors from Outer Space!! Date to remember: Friday 13th January We will be offering a Writing Meeting on Friday 13th January 9.15-10.15. Please come along to to learn about how we teach writing in Reception and to also try different activities and games which you can use to support and develop your child's writing. Things to note: -Please can you make sure your child comes to school in a waterproof coat everyday and that any accessories such as hats or gloves are named. -Keep using your child's yellow contact book to record any reading or reading activities you do at home. -Please can you check that your child has a healthy lunch everyday e.g. a sandwich (or something similar), fruit and a yogurt. No sweets or nut products are to be sent into school. If you are unsure of what to send in, ask your child's class teacher. All About Us We have two classes in Reception Year, with 22/23 children in each class. Our Lady Class taught by Mrs Barry, supported by Mrs Banks. Outside AreaWe are fortunate enough to have a spacious outside area to support our children's development. Our children and staff enjoy working in these areas very much!
Take Away TasksWe will occasionally hand a take away task to your child on a Friday. Please return it during the following week. If you have any problems, please speak to the class teacher. Reading with your childReading Morning: We will be having a Reading Morning on Friday 7th October from 9-10am. Please come along to find out about how our reading schemes work and how your child will learn their letter sounds through phonics. It is very important that you read with your child as much as possible. Please write any comments you have or words of support for your child in the contact book. Staff read and respond to your comments as much as possible. If you are finding it hard to read with your child please speak to a member of staff, we are always keen to help with tips, ideas and words of encouragment. Phonics Session: Every Friday morning from 14th October we will invite parents to come in and join us for a short recapping session of the letter sounds the children have learnt. Please come along and join us. Below is a link to a Jolly Phonics guide to help Parents with supporting the use of phonics in reading. http://www.jollylearning.co.uk/jp.htm |
