Year 1 & 2 is an exciting and vital period of your child's education, building on the firm foundations from Reception. In this time they will learn fantastic new skills such as a love for reading and inspiration for writing. They will also be taught to be more independent and become more involved in their own learning.

It is vital that this support is continued at home. Your child should be given the opportunity to write in contexts other than school work and share a book with loved ones at home!  

The Year One/Two team consists of:

This term our topic is Castle Adventure. The children have already been immersed in castle stories and enjoyed a day with the history man. He taught us all about life as a Medieval Knight and showed us real life armour and other artefacts. From this the children drew up a list of questions that they would like to find the answers to throughout the topic. We are also visiting a castle in Arundel, where we will be experiencing life in a real castle whilst having a fantastic day out!

In Literacy this term we will be studying a range of texts connected with this topic. We will begin by exploring non-ficiton texts and writing in a range of different genres. We will then move on to studying many different fictional favourites later in the term such as Jim and the Beanstalk.

Maths

Childrens Mathematical development is underpinned by the use of Numicon. A fantastic resource which gives the children a visual and tactile understanding of the number system. We love to count in steps of 1, 2, 5, 10 and even 100s! Why not practice this at home with your child! 

Science

Our Science topic this term is Light and Sound. We will be conducting a range of investigations which will be explored through our topic.

PE

PE days are Monday and Tuesday.However, PE kit needs to be in school from Monday-Friday.

Children need to come to school with a full PE kit which includes, white T-Shirt, black shorts, black plimsoles and a black or navy tracksuit for outdoor PE on cold days. Earings should be taken out for these days.

Homework

Homework goes out on a Friday and comes in the following Wednesday.
