Public Sector Equality Duty

At Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Primary School, the Public Sector Equality Duty is not simply a statutory requirement—it is a lived expression of our mission. Inspired by the words of St John Bosco, “It is not enough to love the young; they must know that they are loved,” we ensure that every child and adult in our community experiences dignity, respect and genuine care.

Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Primary School is fully committed to equality of opportunity in all areas of school life for students and staff. This includes us actively focusing on those with protected characteristics including:

  • age
  • gender reassignment
  • being married or in a civil partnership
  • being pregnant or on maternity leave
  • disability
  • race including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin
  • religion or belief
  • sex

Our Catholic identity calls us to recognise that every person is created “in the image and likeness of God,” and we look to celebrate and achieve everyone individuals ‘gifts and talents’ This belief shapes how we understand and enact PSED. It means:

  • We see equality not only as a legal obligation but as a Gospel imperative.
  • We strive to ensure that every child knows they are valued, respected and loved.
  • We celebrate the unique gifts and talents of each individual.
  • We actively challenge attitudes or behaviours that undermine the dignity of any member of our community.
  • We cultivate a culture where differences are not merely accepted but embraced as part of God’s rich creation.

The Equalities Policy is published on the website and held by Bosco Catholic Education Trust to ensure consistency across the schools within the trust. This can be found on the bosch page following the link to Bosco - Equality
