Curriculum Overview

The learning community at Our Lady’s recognises that every individual has strengths and that we learn best through real-life experiences, including visits to topic‑related sites, in‑school events and the use of a wide range of resources, including ICT.

As a Catholic school, Religious Education is central to our mission and underpins our commitment to educating the whole child. We follow the diocesan curriculum and maintain high standards across all subjects, ensuring strong foundations in literacy, numeracy and wider learning. We work in partnership with parents, the parish and the local community to nurture faith, service and charitable engagement. Foundation subjects are fully embedded within our curriculum, providing rich and meaningful learning experiences.

Our curriculum is designed with the diverse backgrounds of our learners in mind. Through a broad range of opportunities, pupils develop an understanding of different cultures, beliefs and practices. British Values are promoted throughout, supporting pupils in understanding their rights and responsibilities as citizens. Spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is integral to our approach, with learners encouraged to think deeply, appreciate different perspectives and develop a strong sense of empathy.

We ensure depth of learning through challenge, reflection and opportunities for pupils to work at greater depth. Teachers regularly review planning to ensure topics remain relevant, engaging and purposeful, with each unit beginning with an inspiring introduction and culminating in a meaningful final outcome.

We support our children through Quality First Teaching (QFT), careful assessment and ongoing dialogue between children, staff and parents, with the aim of developing resilient, collaborative and creative thinkers.

The attachments below contain the year‑group overviews, outlining the learning focus for each group across the Autumn, Spring and Summer terms. These overviews are reviewed annually by all teachers to ensure the curriculum remains progressive.
