The aim of the Government Pupil Premium (PP) is to raise achievement among pupils in the following categories who receive or are entitled to Free School Meals, children in care (Looked After Children) and children with parents in the Armed Forces.
The funding is used to enable an education which will increase life choices for children who fall into one of the three categories above, enabling them to have more choices in further education and later careers. Children will be supported to attain and progress well, reducing any gap between high and low income families.
We have a range of strategies and programmes to support all our children with additional strategies for children identified as being in receipt of the “pupil premium” when they are needed.
The impact of PP Funding is reviewed each term, led by Senior Leaders Annabel Jannece and Clare Reddick.

At our OLQOH, we are committed to ensuring that all children, regardless of background, have access to high-quality education and opportunities to thrive. Our Pupil Premium strategy is designed to address specific barriers faced by eligible pupils, including language development, academic attainment, cultural enrichment, emotional wellbeing, attendance, and parental engagement. We use targeted interventions, inclusive teaching practices, and enrichment activities to close gaps and support every child in reaching their full potential. Our approach is regularly reviewed to ensure impact and equity across all key stages.

The PP Coordinator (Annabel Jannece and Clare Reddick) reports to Governors each term (see below, together with our PP Policy) how PP monies have been spent and the impact of actions taken. This can be seen in our Impact PowerPoint below.
Our PP Governor (Jan Miles) reports to the Governing Body.
Parents informed of progress via Parent Teacher meetings and through the end of year reports.
Evaluation discussions/viewpoint questionnaires are set as appropriate.
PP children are discussed during Pupil Progress Meetings and performance management reviews.
We are committed to ensuring every child thrives, including those eligible for Pupil Premium funding. Currently, Pupil Premium pupils make up 12% of our school population. The funding supports us to provide targeted support in reading, writing, and maths, alongside enrichment opportunities that broaden experiences and build confidence. Our strategies focus on raising attainment, improving attendance, and nurturing well-being, so every child can achieve their full potential.
Historically, pupils eligible for Pupil Premium funding have demonstrated stronger performance in mathematics compared to literacy. However, in the previous academic year, this gap has significantly narrowed, with some year groups now achieving higher outcomes in literacy than in mathematics. This trend is particularly evident in Key Stage 1 and lower Key Stage 2, where there has been a strategic emphasis on language development. This positive shift reflects the effectiveness of the school’s targeted initiatives to improve literacy attainment among disadvantaged pupils.
