Year 1 Home Learning

Good morning Year 1, 

Welcome to Week 3 of Home Learning. We hope that you have had a wonderful weekend and that you are ready to get going with your learning this week. 


Here is an outline of the learning for this week:


Maths: We will be looking at fractions of shapes and quantities this week in Maths. We will begin to solve fraction word problems. You can find additional maths activities that have been set on PurpleMash.


Phonics: We will be learning the Phase 5 sounds: ir, ue, aw, wh, ph this week.

We have also included Youtube links that you may find helpful to use for each new sound. 


English: In literacy this week we will be learning about the prefix –un and the suffix –er. You can find some more information about prefixes and suffixes on the BBC bitesize website.

There are also some tasks on PurpleMash that have been set that cover prefixes and suffixes and a reading comprehension task. 


Topic: Geography focus - We will be learning about our local area and the countries that make up the United Kingdom. There is a link to an Oak Academy lesson which focuses on London. 


RE: Our RE topic this half term is ‘Special people’ in which we look at special people in our family and in our community. We will discuss the different roles that people have within the Church and begin to talk about the role of the Priest. The first lessons have been uploaded onto the Year 1 Home learning page along with a PDF of the slides.  Lesson three - Focus on the different roles people have within the Church. Lesson four: Role of the Priest  


Computing: We will be talking about what Algorithms are this week. It sounds like a long tricky word but using the lesson on BBC bitesize, we learning that an algorithm is a list of rules to follow in order to solve a problem.


Science: We will be learning about wind direction and how it can be measured. There are also some experiments on the Home learning Page that you might wish to try at home. 


This week Miss Gedling is in class teaching and Mrs Loftus is available throughout the school day to assist with any Home Learning questions and queries.
